    Same Old Same Food
Are you responsible for preparing the meals for your family? Apparently, out of all the recipes and dishes in the world, the average mum relies on just NINE different meals to feed her family.
A British study of 4,000 families found that nine in 10 mums cook the same meals over and over again - and 25% even have a set day of the week for different dishes. It was also found that dinner time takes the average mum 35 minutes from start to finish, and four in 10 mums play safe by choosing meals they know their family like. Also, many of them admit to keeping recipe books from the likes of Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver on their shelves just to impress visitors. The most common meal among Britain's mums was spaghetti bolognaise followed by roast dinners, a shepherd's or cottage pie and a pasta dish. What are your go-to family meals - something you cook at least once a week for your family?

    (Rose Rose I love you...)
Roses come in many variations and colours. They are a popular choice for stating your romantic feelings and you’d have to be hard-pressed to find a woman who doesn’t like to be romanced with roses. But a rose isn't a rose unless you decipher the meaning of its colour. Here is the message you are sending based on the colour of rose you choose to give:

Red: Red roses are the universal language of love. It states “I love you” & also speaks of desire and passion.

White: White roses declare your eternal love & also convey the message that the recipient is worthy, showing your respect as an equal. If your love is pure then white roses are a great gift.

Yellow: Yellow roses are associated with jealousy and friendship. In the end the meaning is conveyed through the context in which you gift the rose.

Red and White: Given together, these two colors demonstrate unity, togetherness.

Pink: Pink roses are the sign of happiness.

    Eek! Fishy Restaurant Practices...

    Cruel & Unneccesary Culinary Practice?
Here's the viral video that's been making its rounds on the www that has animal rights activists up in arms.
WARNING!!! The contents of this stomach-churning video are pretty graphic, so press play at your own risk. And if you are under 18, please ask a parent or chaperone for permission before watching.

A clip in which a part-fried fish is shown breathing and wriggling on a plate as it is being slowly eaten alive in a restaurant. In order to keep the carp alive chefs cook its body but wrap its head in a wet cloth to keep it breathing, before covering it in sauce and serving in on a plate.

    The Gold Health Guide
You can help keep meals free of salmonella and other food-poisoning bacteria by preparing raw foods (especially meat) on a plastic rather than a wooden cutting board? A wooden board, porous and filled with crevices, harbors food particles and, eventually, bacteria. if using a wooden board, scrub well with hot, sudsy water, then rinse with 2 teaspoons of chlorine per quart of water after each use, so bacteria don't spread when you're chopping fresh veggies. Though plastic boards don't require as much care, they should also be washed thoroughly after each use.

    Dessert as Aphrodisiac
There's a new dessert that is supposed to enhance your bedroom prowess and you might want to head to Colombia, South America to try it! A group of student chefs there have just created a dessert made from passion fruit and Viagra. And they claim that through trial and error, it actually works. They gave it to a group without telling them it contained Viagra. A second group was in the know and both experienced heightened desire!
Wow, Viagra as a key ingredient in a dessert, eh? Well it certainly eliminates the need for self-raising flour!

A Man Who Relieves Himself by Remote
A man whose bowel was damaged in a motorcycle crash has been given a new lease of life.
Ged Galvin, 55, now presses a remote control to open his bowels and go to the toilet.
The IT project manager from Barnsley, south Yorkshire, suffered massive internal injuries from the serious accident and had to be fitted with a colostomy bag until surgeons at the Royal London Hospital could perform the complex operation to rebuild his bottom.
The medical team took a muscle from above his knee, wrapped it around his sphincter, and then attached electrodes to the nerves.
These are now operated by a palm-sized remote control that he carries in his pocket.
No wonder his friends call him "the man with the bionic bottom"!

    Live Like the Hamsters Do!

A French hotel is offering guests the chance to live like a hamster for a day
The hotel in the French town of Nantes is offering the chance for people to become a hamster for 99 euros a night.
As a hamster guest, you can feast on hamster grain, get a workout by running in a giant wheel and sleep in hay stacks in the suite called the "Hamster Villa".
It is the latest venture from owners Frederic Tabary and Yann Falquerho, who run a company which rents out unusual venues to adventure-seekers. Both architects, the men designed the room in an 18th century building to resemble the inside of a hamster's cage.
"Often, the adults who come here have wanted or did have hamsters when they were small," said Mr Falquerho, who was dressed as a hamster.
However, the price is soon to go up as today's hamsters need, according to the owners, Wifi and a giant TV screen.

Cost of happiness discovered by Australian economist
Paul Frijters, a professor at Queensland University of Technology, has calculated a formula he claims delivers the monetary equivalent of the value of various milestones in life.
Marriage is worth $50,000 to men, but just $25,000 to women, according to his formula to determine the cost of happiness.
The figures represent a lump sum a person would need to receive out of the blue in order to make him or her as happy as marriage would over a lifetime.
When it comes to divorce, a man would be so devastated it would feel as if he had lost $180,000. A woman would be far less traumatised, feeling as though she had only lost $15,000.
Prof Frijters, who was this year named the best economist aged under 40, has tracked major life events of 10,000 people since 2001.

Here are more of the Prof's findings:

    Marriage
    woman - £8, 726.25
    man - £17, 675.68

    Birth of child
    woman - £ 4, 866.77
    man - £18, 236.39

    Divorce
    woman - £4, 977.08 (loss)
    man - £61, 116.46 (loss)

    Death of a loved one
    woman - £73, 204.86 (loss)
    man - £350, 830.36 (loss)

    Illness
    woman - £28, 124.61(loss)
    man - £201, 264.68 (loss)

    Moving house
    woman - £1, 453.80 (gain)
    man - £8, 947.11 (loss)

    The Gold Health Guide
You can ease the pain of bee stings and other insect attacks by rubbing aspirin directly onto the sting. It helps counteract inflammatory agents in the venom, but shouldn't be tried by anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to aspirin. Other good first-aid choices: Put ice on the bite to decrease inflammation. Try rubbing meat tenderizer on it; enzyme-based tenderizers help break down the proteins that make up insect venom.

Today’s Show is made possible by the NUMBER EIGHTEEN!

One of the beneficiaries of this Charity Dinner is Boys’ Town, Gold 90FM's adopted charity.
For table reservations and more info, call 63373711.

This fund-raising project was initiated by MediaCorp to raise at least one million dollars for charity.

The idea is simple – to build a 5m by 8m Singapore island using 2x2 stud LEGO® bricks. The money raised will go to the beneficiaries of Community Chest and President's Challenge 2009 and the funds will be channeled to help Singaporeans and families affected by the economic downturn.

The story we are telling is equally simple – “The First Singaporeans built this country with blood, sweat and tears. Who will fill it with love, hope and compassion?”

The concept was inspired by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s call to the nation to show that we care for those who have been deeply affected by the recession. As we emerge out of this crisis together, it is a great opportunity for us to show our compassion.

    Tuesdays are for Lazy Husbands...

Men who want to have Children shouldn't do Housework?!
It's the get-out-of-chores clause men have been praying for for years!
A study has found that household chores – including using a vacuum cleaner or microwave oven – could reduce a man’s chances of having children.
Researchers exposed male volunteers to electromagnetic fields – high doses of which are produced by all electrically charged objects, including refrigerators and vacuum cleaners – and found such exposure could double the risk of having poor-quality sperm.
The scientists are not saying you shouldn’t use a microwave but it makes sense to turn it on, then move away and go back when it is done. But the scientists also advise men to keep devices, especially those with electric motors, away from the body.
Fertility expert Dr De-Kun Li of Stanford University said his work provides the first evidence of a link between electrical goods and declining male fertility.
Hmmm… ladies, any of you thinking it can’t be a coincidence this was study conducted by a man?
Via SMS: Then men should also stay away from tv and computer games. :-)

Invisibility soon to be a Reality?
Scientists from Imperial College London say an invisibility cloak (ala Harry Potter) could soon be real after they were given the go-ahead for a £4.9 million project. That’s because they managed to prove that metamaterials can bend, control and manipulate light and other kinds of electromagnetic waves. They will now work to create these which are believed to be the key to invisibility. It is claimed such a device would grab light as it approaches and forces it to flow smoothly around the cloak instead of striking it - rendering the object concealed beneath it invisible to the human eye.
While I don't pretend to understand the science behind this, I can’t wait for the invisible cloak to be invented - then I’ll never have to look in the mirror and feel fat again! Haha!

Today’s Show is made possible by the NUMBER SEVENTEEN!

17 - During the building of the Panama Canal, 17 species of panda became extinct in an attempt to rid the area of disease causing mosquitoes.

17 - Employers at the ten largest Fortune 500 companies estimate that productivity has dropped by 17% since cell phones with text capabilities have become popular!

17 - The optimal temperature for water that is to be used to water cruciferous vegetables is 17 degrees Celcius.
And while we're on the subject, eat your cruciferous veggies!
Research is continually showing the benefits of eating a diet high in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and cabbage. These veggies have been proven to prevent all sorts of cancer, including breast cancer. Now a study at UC Santa Barbara has shown why they are so effective - they contain compounds called isothiocyanates which they believe to be responsible for the cancer-preventive and anti-carcinogenic activities in these vegetables. They can activate some genes that fight cancer and switch off others that fuel tumors. Read the full story here.
